Coach Development
We have to understand what coaching means and its specific components which contribute to the relationship between a coach, player and team. Once we have established the techniques, skills and attributes required to be a successful coach, the next stage is development (increase, produce, expand and evolve), basically 'practice to improve'.
Coaching is generative, focuses on the present and future, and understands through actions.
Coaching is about change, about making changes.
The 3 areas of coaching are:
- GOALS: Focusing on what you want and how to achieve it.
- VALUES: Knowing what is important to you and living your values in achieving your goals.
- BELIEFS: Challenging limiting beliefs by giving tasks that provide feedback.
Coaching acts from empowering beliefs:
- Learning is in the doing, Change comes from action (Feedback & learning).
- Action is moving towards goals, living values and testing beliefs about yourself & others.
- No failure, only feedback.
- We have all the resources (internal & external) we need or can create.
- All behaviour has a purpose.
- Have a choice.
- You are doing the best you can and you can probably do better.
- You create your own reality.
- Coaching is an equal, synergistic partnership.
- Relationships are powerful.
- The client has the answers.
- The coach has the questions.
Limiting Beliefs are the major culprits stopping us achieving our goals and living our values
- 1. Whatever the client says is stopping them from getting their goal is a belief and comes from the client, not reality
- Obstructions are created on the outside world from limiting beliefs in the client’s mind
THE ART OF COACHING
- Calibration – seeing, noticing& observing their state.
- Listening – Hearing, listening to, listening for& conscious listening.
Master of different perspectives: (perceptual positions)
- Own reality – goals, values& boundaries
- Client’s point of view – use your imagination to understand another’s view
- Detached – outside your own view and the client’s view, the connection, relationships or difference between the two viewpoints
- System – business, family or ecology, how do the client’s actions or decisions impact them.
The PAW Process = ACHIEVEMENT
- Possibility
- It is possible to achieve them
- Ability
- They are capable of achieving them
- Worthiness
- They deserve to achieve them
